Book Review: Cowboy Jackpot by Randi Alexander

The cover of a book titled cowboy jackpot with an excerpt of the book review

I wasn't sure how I was going to take to this. I hadn't read the blurb and merely went off the idea of cowboys when I offered to review. The initial introduction to the characters threw me off a little because of the past history shared (which you need to read the Christmas novel for). However, it absolutely works on its own. I'd have liked to have read the other first but its not essential.

What Ms Alexander excels in is the sex scenes. They were hot. But it wasn't just that. I mean they were smokin'. But again, it wasn't just that. I've never read one so uniquely written - and not in a bad way at all. It never stands out as odd, just refreshing and natural. The dialogue between the characters were almost crude in some respects but it felt raw and sexy and entirely realistic.

I found myself rooting for the couple, even though their courtship amounted to little more than a shared night together and I was relieved to watch them get a happy ending. The only thing that I would have like to have seen was a little more characterisation, particularly for Kira. A lot of her secrets are kept hidden until the end but this did mean I struggled to understand her. She was insanely confident, but I failed to understand why and sometimes found myself being annoyed that she didn't feel an ounce of insecurity around Dallas. And then her switch from wanting just a quick fling, to something more came as a bit of a surprise.

But no doubt, Ms Alexander created a great, brooding hero and a couple that suited each other. The chemistry was fantastic, original and I think something that will appeal to those who get fed up with that same sort of stuff in romance novels. Certainly worth a read.
